Summer Wardrobe Staples: Flattering & Comfy Styles for Moms

Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 20th, but it’s getting HAWT here in Illinois. We’re in the 80s and 90s now, and the sun is out in full force. Naturally, the kids want to be outside all. day. long. And truthfully, so do I (HELLO, SUNTAN!). But getting dressed has become a real chore lately. For one, I gained the “COVID 19” – or the COVID 9, at the very least. On top of that, my style has shifted over the past year. I’m going for comfort. But I’m not willing to give up style.

Basically, I wanna have my cake and eat it. Preferably chocolate, but I’m flexible.

Even if you’re one of those weirdos who wants lemon filling (why???) or who scrapes all the frosting off the top, I want you to have your cake and eat it, too.

Fill your closet with these gems, and you really can’t go wrong. I’ve put together a list of must-haves for spring and summer. You’ll find flattering, flowing dresses and rompers (with pockets, because, kids), comfy yet beautiful sandals, gorgeous sunglasses, and a few pieces of jewelry that will take any outfit to the next level.

Just because we’re moms doesn’t mean we have to wear ratty t-shirts and baggy shorts in the summer (although it’s totally okay if you do!). We might be getting sprayed with a garden hose, sweating our buns off, or eating cherry popsicles in the grass with our littles, but we can look good doing it, right?!

Dresses & Rompers That Flatter Every Body (and they have pockets)

This jumpsuit comes in 19 different colors (multicolor is my fave). Not only does it have pockets, but it also has adjustable shoulder straps and a belt so you can get the fit just right.

I love the balloon sleeve detail on this dress. The silhouette is defined at the waist but then roomy below. So flattering!

Dr. Blatchford, O.D.

Does it get more comfy than a t-shirt dress? I really like the swing style of this one and the short sleeves.

Hot Sunglasses

Ray Bans are a bit of a splurge, but aviators never go out of style!

If you’re up for something bold, a black cateye shape will do the trick! I love the blunt edges on the bottom of the shades, which almost gives them a wayfarer vibe.

Comfortable Flats & Sandals

Skechers are known for being comfortable (I have 4 pairs for this very reason), but they aren’t always the cutest. These wedges are gorgeous though! I especially like how there are back and top straps to keep your feet in place when you’re chasing your kids.

Stretchy shoes are perfect for summer when our feet tend to swell. And the neutral shade of these means they’ll go with almost everything! PS – ignore the two-star review in the box above. It’s a glitch. These babies are well-loved.

On-Trend Earrings

What a brilliant alternative to standard round studs! Dress them up or down and wear them day or night!

No jewelry case is complete without sparkly glitter earrings. I love these multicolor studs from kate spade.

You Deserve This

We spend 96% of our time focused on our kids – helping them, making them food, buying them clothes, cleaning up their messes… we moms need a little love, too. We deserve to wear clothes we feel good in even if we’re just at home. Taking care of ourselves in this way can do wonders for our self-esteem and mindset.

Let me know in the comments which piece is your favorite. Happy shopping!
